How To Get A Shadow Key In Terraria
The Shadow Chest is a storage item which is plant only in The Underworld, generally on top of or within Ruined Houses, and contains rare items.
All Shadow Chests are initially locked, requiring a Shadow Key to open. The cardinal is not consumed when used. Each Shadow Chest contains ane high-tier item of 03* rarity, along with other standard Underground boodle.
Like all other naturally-occurring Chests, Shadow Chests can be freed with a pickaxe or drill after being emptied, and picked upwardly by the thespian for placement and use elsewhere.

Notes [ ]
- Shadow Chests can contain Lifeforce and Teleportation Potions, which are unavailable for crafting before Hardmode.
- Mimics tin appear as a locked Shadow Chest, making them harder to spot without a Lifeform Analyzer / Metal Detector or their upgrades.
- Golden Chests that spawn within 250 blocks of the bottom of the world will generate the same common items as Shadow Chests.
- Two of the possible drops are removed from the boodle pool for every world and tin only be constitute with fishing (Treasure Magnet counting as two different drops).
- This is likely an oversight after the introduction of the Treasure Magnet in the loot pool.
Tips [ ]
- Mimics tin never spawn as an unlocked Shadow Chest. Unlocking every Shadow Chest during pre-Hardmode will give them away easily in Hardmode.
- The Drax tin can exist found in Shadow Chests on the Nintendo3DS version, making information technology attainable in pre-Hardmode and giving players a significant mining advantage.
- Since two of the drops are missing from the pool, it is possible that even a large world will not contain all weapons. Missing weapons tin can exist obtained from Obsidian Lock Boxes, which are found in fished Obsidian Crates.
