stinky shoulder straps

ive been commuting almost every day since apr with a patagonia critical mass bag, which is roomy and stays dry, but the fabric in the shoulder strap absorbs sweat and stinks. anyone have similar issues or suggestions on how to set? ive been considering trying to discover some black duct tape and wrapping it.

I have a messenger bag I use on urban center rides, and I recently had to launder information technology because of the smell. Only plopped it in the washing automobile, and sprayed some Febreeze on information technology once dry. It got rid of all of the stank.

There was a thread over in the stock-still gear forum non besides long ago most this: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...bag+scent+wash

Laundering is a good thought and here is a style to brand information technology more effective. At the pet store I picked upwardly an enzymatic cleaner for dealing with animal pi$$ spots, etc. I use it on my gloves which tin get a little rank after a couple of weeks. The enzymes consume upward all the stuff that causes odors so the particular is actually clean afterwards yous wash information technology. I saturate the gloves and permit them soak for 15-twenty minutes then throw them in the washer. Afterwards air drying I tin't detect whatsoever olfactory property at all.

I think that if you wrap the straps in duct tape, that must be considered a permanent modification. That stuff is tough to get off after information technology has been on a while.

That's a good question for Patagonia to answer. They are so high and mighty about design and such, how could they design something that clearly wasn't tested properly (um, biking). There are materials which probably could take been used to preclude this.

Alternate solution: rack&panniers

I'd concord the duct tape is going to make and fifty-fifty bigger mess. How about a sleeve? If the shoulder strap is removeable (and a quick await at the Patagucci spider web site suggests that information technology might be) you could brand a tubular strap protector out of neoprene, or coated pack material and airtight-cell foam, that would be more than sweat resistant, and easily removed for laundering. If the strap is not removable, you could make the aforementioned strap protector as a apartment piece with a strip of velcro to adhere it effectually the strap, sort of like a Lizard Skin chain stay protector, only for your Disquisitional Mass strap.

Canvass neoprene is available at larger cloth stores, aforementioned for cordura, foam, and velcro. Or from the web, of course.

thanks - the shoulder strap on this model really isnt removable, but a rigged neoprene sleeve wrapped effectually it might work. im so over the duct tape idea

Read the thread in the fixed/ss forum. Vinegar really REALLY works. I had a pair of stinky gloves that I soaked in vinegar over nighttime, and and so threw in the laundry the next day. When they came out of the laundry, at that place was a very faint scent of vinegar left in them which went away later a day or ii. They smelled completely nuetral after that.

Seriously, utilise the vinegar. It'southward cheaper and works meliorate than whatever chemical you tin can spray on it, and it'due south not going to destroy the environment.

Vinegar, no doubt. It removed the rank smell that would NEVER exit my Polar strap, no matter how much I washed it or soaked it in detergent. That single strap could smell up my whole motorcar in an 60 minutes. Almost every bit bad as my hockey pocketbook...

Just become a strap pad, timbuk2 sells a lot of them to yuppies who's shoulders can't stand the raw strap. I have an orange one for more frontal visibility to match my yellow/orange messenger bag.

I got a Specialized "Large Universal Slap Pad" that is meant to keep the chainstay or something on a mountain bike, it fits perfectly on a timbuk2 strap, I really got two for my 2 timbuk2 bags. I actually employ both bags on a daily basis, although not both at the same time, at to the lowest degree non however.

Some warm water and Simple Green should clean up any purse, spray some simple green on the strap and scrub, as well "spot care for" any stains or other problem areas, let soak in the uncomplicated dark-green solution ,then rinse well and air dry.

You know those wraps for 'fridge doors ? ...the ones with velcro seals ? ...I wrap those around the straps. They absorb sweat are are easily washed instead of the whole 'pack.

vinegar works...

i've besides had good luck with oxy-clean. dissolve the recommended corporeality in saucepan of hot water, submerge the stinky bag, and weigh it downwardly with a brick that's been wrapped in a towel. allow it sit until the water's gone cold. then rinse and air dry.

you also become a very make clean brick -- which is nice.

VINEGAR!!! Buy a gallon of the supermarket generic brand for $one.25 and soak that stuff. Seriously. Information technology works. It volition come back. Nature of the beast. My bag gets soaked in sweat everyday, if you don't launder that sweat off on a relatively frequent basis, it will smell.

As well, I'm a vegetarian. The veggie thing won't help you .

I've started using vinegar in my normal wash (rinse cycle) as well to get that extra piddling freshness for jerseys that have been sitting in the laundry basket for a week, however wet with sweat because it's so darn boiling here! It'south actually good stuff. It also is tastsy.
